This play-based preschool has affectionately been called “The Official Preschool of the Bay Collection”.  Many of our neighbors have their kids at this school conveniently located further up Poinsettia and really love it.

This is a brand new Christian preschool.  We don’t know anyone who has enrolled their kids there, but the location would be hard to beat.  It is within walking distance of most of the Bay Collection.  This school offers full day care as well as half day preschool.

This is another brand new school just up the street from the Bay Collection.  The facility is beautifully designed and the philosophy of the school is inspired by Reggio Emilia.  Infant care through kindergarten is provided.  Friends who have toured the facility have been very impressed.

This childcare center and preschool offers care for infants through kindergarteners.  This center is conveniently located down the street from Pacific Rim elementary school.  Bay Collection moms I have talked with have been pleased with the level of care provided by this facility.

The City Parks and Recreation Department offers parent cooperative toddler and preschool programs at several locations.  My friend’s children attend the Kruger House Program in Holiday Park close to Carlsbad Village and she is very happy with it.  If you are new to the area and want to meet other moms, this program provides lots of opportunities for moms and kids to make new friends.

Public Elementary School

Pacific Rim

Many kids in the Bay Collection attend this California Distinguished School.  Both my children have been Pacific Rim students.  I have been pleased by the school’s high standards and excellent teachers.

Jefferson Elementary School

This public magnet school elementary school close to Carlsbad Village  has an International Baccalaureate program. 

Private Elementary Schools

The nearby community of Encinitas has many private schools that are attended by Bay Collection Residents.

Bay Collection residents don’t have to use a lot of gas to complete their errands.  Several local shopping centers are within one mile of home.

Poinsettia Village

The Poinsettia Village Shopping Center just down the hill from the Bay Collection offers a newly renovated Ralph’s store with a gourmet deli.  Rite Aid is available to pick up medication and other necessities.  You can also pick up fish for dinner at Pelly’s Fish Market and Café.   Many restaurants in this center offer takeout making it the perfect place to pick up an easy dinner.

Need to mail a package, do some dry cleaning, deposit a check, get your hair colored, or paint a room?  Poinsettia Village offers services to meet almost every need.  Starbucks offers a great venue to grab your daily coffee and meet your neighbors.

Paseo del Norte

This street is mostly residential and commercial, but as you approach Palomar Airport Road, you find two hidden gems.  Locals love to pick up the locally grown produce as well as a quart of milk at Carlsbad Ranch Market  (www.carlsbadranchmkt.com) .  If you are a carnivore you will enjoy the neighboring Tip Top Meats European Delicatessen.  This is a serious butcher shop which sells an amazing assortment of cuts of meat.  It also has an assortment of interesting European foods as well as an in store cafeteria style restaurant.

Carlsbad Premium Outlets

Over 90 outlet stores including Calvin Klein, Vans,  Brooks Brothers, and Juicy Couture create a shoppers paradise.  The Mall  has some great kiosk stores as well including one that sells every piece of apparel that your dog would ever wear.  Family friendly Ruby’s Diner and Elegant Bellefleur overlooking  The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch are great places to grab a bite.

Plaza Paseo Real

A short drive or bicycle ride from the Bay Collection, this shopping center offers almost anything one could need.  Amenities include a movie theater, full service post office and a beautiful city library.  Vons grocery store is the place to go to pick up groceries.  Down the way you can purchase gourmet pet food, have your hair done, rent a movie, or cash a check.  Plaza Paseo Real offers wonderful restaurants ranging from the casual Joe’s Smokin Barbecue to the elegant Tuscany.   La Costa Coffee Roasting is the place to check out the local scene, meet friends, or do some work on your lap top.  It also hosts events including free jazz on Friday and Saturday nights.

According to the latest forecast by the National Association of Realtors(NAR), a modest gain in the level of home sales is possible over the next couple of months and improvement is forecast for the second half of this year as more buyers are able to access affordable mortgages. The Pending Home Sales Index, a forward-looking indicator based on contracts signed in April, rose 6.3% to 88.2 from a reading of 83.0 in March. It’s the highest index since last October, but remains 13.1% lower than April 2007 when it stood at 101.5. NAR chief economist said pending sales contracts have picked up notably in areas undergoing significant price drops.

I have been working with clients who are” bargain hunters” in San Diego County for the past 4 months or so, and those bargain listings have usually multiple offers on the first few days on the market! This one property we made an offer in Oceanside, which already had 15 offers! I couldn’t believe it….The key is to be patient to get a bargain. Especially when you are dealing with short sales, and bank owned properties, it takes time for an offer to get to the right person for review and to get a response, unless they are so motivated and ready to go. Just keep in mind that it may take several tries to get one.

NAR chief economist sees an improving economy. Growth in the U.S. gross domestic product(GDP) should be 1.7% in 2008 and 2.0% next year. It’ not bad at all out there.
